The Horse Gulch Health Campus, billed as a one-stop shop for medical needs, officially opened Thursday with the traditional ribbon cutting.

The complex, almost 30,000 square feet housed in two buildings at East Eighth Avenue and Third Street, was developed by Pediatric Partners of the Southwest.

Among other tenants, who bring a full range of health providers to one site, is Mercy Family Medicine, owned by Mercy Regional Medical Center. Mercy Family Medicine also provides diagnostic services, including radiology and blood work, occupational medicine and integrated physical therapy.

Babies to boomers can find help at the center.

“Providers located on the campus offer care from cradle to grave,” said Dr. Cecile Fraley, the managing member of Pediatric Partners. “Everything is under one roof.”

Among services are a concussion center and a telemedicine connection to Children’s Hospital of Colorado in Denver. The telemedicine center allows parents to consult in real time with physicians on the Front Range.

“Parents no longer have to drive to Denver for a consultation,” Fraley said.

Pediatric Partners of the Southwest was formed in 2005 by doctors from Valley-Wide Health Systems when the practice closed its operations in Durango.

It’s been onward and upward for the partners since. They located at Rivergate Lane, expanded there and then opened a satellite clinic at the health-services clinic on East Third Avenue near the public library.

The partnership bought 1.5 acres on which the Building Specialties Store sat on East Eighth Avenue. An existing building of 7,000 square feet was rebuilt and a new 20,000-square-foot building was constructed for medical offices.

The medical partnership sold land at the east end of Third Street to the city of Durango for a trailhead and parking lot to provide access to the Horse Gulch trail system.
