Lanny Barnes not on relay start list

Lanny Barnes of Durango skis during a biathlon training session earlier this month at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia.

Durango’s Lanny Barnes is not on the start list for today’s women’s biathlon relay at the Winter Olympics.

The start list is a lineup of those expected to be in the race, which begins at 7:30 a.m. MST (6:30 p.m. Sochi, Russia, time).

The U.S. list for the four-person relay – in which each participant will ski 6 kilometers – includes Susan Dunklee, Hannah Dreissigacker, Sara Studebaker and Annelies Cook. Of the four, Dunklee has had the best results, with a 12th-place in the 12.5K mass-start race, the best ever for a U.S. woman biathlete.

Dreissigacker placed 23rd in the 15K individual event, a race in which Barnes placed 64th. Four years ago at the Vancouver Olympics, Barnes took 23rd in the 15K individual, the best-ever U.S. women’s biathlon finish to that point.

Studebaker and Cook’s best placings at the Sochi Olympics have been 44th and 53rd, respectively.

The relay is the last biathlon event for women at the Olympics.
