Local 14ers hope to peak at the Pepsi Center

Patrick Cunnion jumped on Alex Weber of Discovery Canyon in his 182-pound bout for the regional championship. Weber won an 8-7 decision, but Cunnion’s runner-up result Saturday in Montrose promised an appearance at the state meet, one of four Demons to qualify for next weekend’s tournament in Denver.

Two here, four there, eight here.

The local wrestling programs walked away from their respective regional tournaments with 14 state berths: Bayfield High School qualified two Class 3A wrestlers; Durango High School qualified four Class 4A wrestlers; Ignacio High School qualified eight Class 2A wrestlers.
