McGee Park opens parking lot for fireworks

(Courtesy San Juan County)

Despite the recent rain showers in San Juan County, New Mexico, fire danger is high, and the county is in extreme drought, prompting the county to open the north parking lot of McGee Park to those who want to light fireworks in an area with minimal fire danger.

Use of fireworks on lands covered wholly or in part by timber, brush, grass, grain or other flammable vegetation is prohibited, making fireworks only legal to use on barren or paved ground, with a water source readily available.

The parking lot is open in the evenings through July 10, and trash cans are set out for disposal of fireworks waste. Residents must clean up after themselves. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No alcohol is allowed.
