The Dolores Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest announced Friday that motorized boating access on McPhee Reservoir will open April 15.

The main boat ramp is tentatively scheduled to operate April 15 to Sept. 24 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Operating hours will shrink Sept. 25 through Oct. 31 when the ramp will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The House Creek Boat Ramp will open May 1 and operate on the same hourly schedule as the main ramp. However, the House Creek ramp will shutter for the season at the end of September.

Current boat registration is required to launch a vessel on the reservoir. Registration information can be found at Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s website.

Inspectors will be on-site to conduct inspections, the Forest Service said in a news release. Boaters who need a full inspection and decontamination are urged to visit the lake during the week when visitation is lower than the weekend. Boaters who have tags from last year’s inspections on McPhee will be able to enter the lake more quickly than boaters who need inspections.

For more information, visit the San Juan National Forest Boating webpage or contact the Dolores Ranger District at (970) 882-7296.
