San Juan National Forest accepting proposals for natural-resource projects

Project proposals for natural-resource projects beneficial to the San Juan National Forest and rural economies of Southwest Colorado are being accepted until March 17.

The cost of accepted projects will be covered by funding available under Title 2 of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.

The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act exists to allow investment opportunities and create employment in maintaining existing infrastructure, implementing stewardship objectives and restoring land health and water quality.

Examples of qualifying projects include watershed restoration, the maintenance or decommission of roads, noxious weeds management and improvement of forests located on or adjacent to national forest land.

Project proposals that meet the legislation’s intent will be reviewed by the San Juan Resource Advisory Committee in the spring.

Before submitting online, applicants must coordinate project proposals with the affected county and ranger district and are advised to contact Ann Bond with project details.

For more information, contact Bond at 385-1219 or abond@fs.fed.us.
